Zachary Smith, Owner of Keep Rolling Mobility
When I was a boy, I viewed disability as nothing but a nuisance. I suppose in a lot of ways, that’s all it ever is, but it really did shape a great deal of who I was and who I would become. Clearing obstacles and overcoming challenges becomes a sort of standard with a disability. It wasn’t until a trip during my high school years that I encountered a group of similarly-disabled individuals that were not only surviving, but seemingly thriving despite these challenges. It was at this point that an idea for a company striving to make life easier and more approachable came to me.
When I reached college, I learned more about the economics and timeframes typical of the mobility industry. I encountered an issue with my wheelchair, which was about 6 months old at the time, where multiple major components, like the axels and the casters, were either rusted, bent, or both. Repairs took months and still cost hundreds of dollars. Even then, the issues came back within another year. This built in urgency and a more pragmatic, approachable structure to the idea I started to build in high school.
The fact of the matter is that mobility equipment is too expensive. Repairs are also too expensive and take too long to complete. Even then, the equipment that we use often only allows us to get by or get through one obstacle out of dozens we see on a given day. Keep Rolling Mobility strives to change that. My personal mission has always been and will always be to make mobility issues a disability no more impactful than wearing glasses or having a mild allergy. Children, adults, and the elderly deserve better than what currently exists. My philosophy has always been that if you don’t see something that should be, you should make it. I have seen that repairs take longer and are too expensive, so I am doing everything I can to make that better, and I will continue to do so until the day I no longer need to.
Thank you for taking an interest in our humble company! I appreciate that interest far more than I can possibly express. If there is anything I can do, if there are any suggestions you have, or if there’s a need that you aren’t seeing fulfilled or a topic you don’t think is communicated well enough, please tell me! My contact information is below and I look forward to the opportunity to help you Keep Rolling!
